The Vancouver Canucks have ironically re-acquired goaltender Jiri Patera from the Boston Bruins off waivers.

Earlier this month the Canucks placed Patera on waivers hoping to send him to Abbotsford but the Bruins claimed him as a backup option in case they couldn't reach a deal with restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman before the season started. However the Bruins resolved that issue by signing Swayman to an eight year $66M contract making Patera available again. Now he'll head to Abbotsford as originally planned after signing a two year contract with Vancouver in July.

Meanwhile the Detroit Red Wings have signed 32 year old rugged forward Austin Watson to a one-year contract worth $775K, which means he will need to be placed on waivers today.

Stay tuned for more.
