Former Vancouver Canucks player Maurice "Moe" Lemay has sadly passed away at the age of 62 as announced on social media.

Lemay was drafted by the Canucks in the 5th round of the 1981 NHL Draft & became a key player for the team during the 1980s. Over the course of 279 games he recorded 70 goals & 92 assists including a standout 52 point season in 1984-85. He later joined the Edmonton Oilers where he won a Stanley Cup in the 1986-87 season. Following his NHL career Lemay spent time between the AHL & NHL before making a move to Europe.

In Europe Lemay thrived playing in Austria, Switzerland & Germany. His most notable season came with Sauerland Iserlohn ECD in the Bundesliga where he racked up 96 points during the mid 1990s. Despite his successful hockey career both in North America & overseas, Lemay led a quiet life after retiring from the sport.

It remains uncertain whether the Vancouver Canucks will hold any formal tribute to honor Lemay's life and career, but his contributions to the team are well remembered. He was one of the few players who could confidently sport the Canucks' bold 'Flying V' jerseys and epitomized the hardworking, dedicated spirit of a hockey player.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Maurice 'Moe' Lemay's family and friends during this difficult time. His legacy in the hockey community will not be forgotten.
