A shocking incident occurred during a ball hockey game in Quebec, where a referee was brutally attacked by a player.

The attack took place in the Dek hockey league after a verbal altercation. The referee was hit multiple times with the player's stick, resulting in serious injuries, including a skull and jaw fracture, broken teeth, and a concussion.

Hockey is known to be a dangerous sport, but incidents like this highlight a disturbing trend of increasing violence, even at community and recreational levels. The attack in Quebec is part of a growing number of such incidents across Canada and North America. These altercations often start with verbal exchanges and escalate quickly.

Authorities have been notified, and the offending player has been identified and spoken to. However, questions remain about the effectiveness of these measures.

«A tragedy happened yesterday,» the French statement read. «A referee who expelled a player from the match was attacked by the offending player. He received a stick blow to the chest followed by a stick blow (with both hands) directly to the face! The referee is seriously injured.»

The association announced that the player has been given a lifetime ban and wished the referee a speedy recovery.

Incidents like this need to decrease, especially at the recreational level. Most players participate for the love of the game and to stay active. Reducing violence is crucial to maintaining a safe environment for everyone involved.
