Despite being over a month into the NHL's free agency period, Nick Cousins, who won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in June, remains unsigned. Cousins experienced a dip in production during both the regular season and the playoffs compared to his performance in 2022-23. His history of dangerous hits , which often put his team in tough situations, likely contributes to the lack of contract offers.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Cousins has decided to switch agents and is now represented by Craig Oster of Newport Sports.
Oster represents several top NHL players, including Rasmus Dahlin, Erik Karlsson, Matthew Tkachuk, and Mark Stone. In total, he has 69 clients under contract, earning a combined $215.9 million for the 2024-25 season.
As the offseason progresses, Cousins may need to explore his options. He could end up signing a professional tryout contract (PTO) to prove himself at an NHL training camp, or he might consider playing in Europe to try and secure an NHL deal for the 2025-26 season.
Last season, the Belleville, Ontario native recorded 15 points (seven goals, eight assists), 64 penalty minutes, and a plus-one rating in 69 games. He added one assist in 12 playoff games during the Panthers' championship run.
