Hokki Kajaani, a team in the second tier of Finnish hockey (Mestis), announced on Facebook that they have terminated Leevi Selanne's contract for the 2024-25 season, making him a free agent in Europe.
Hokki Kajaani was Leevi Selanne's first professional club after finishing a two-year stint at Curry College in the United States. In 23 games for Hokki Kajaani last season, Selanne had four points (two goals, two assists), 24 penalty minutes, and an even rating. He also played in three games during the relegation round but didn't record any points.
Transitioning from a Division 3 NCAA school to the second tier of professional hockey in Finland was challenging for Selanne. Living up to the Selanne name is tough given his father's achievements in the NHL and internationally, but Leevi is determined to make his own mark. Now, he will seek a fresh start with a new club.
