According to NHL insider Dave Pagnotta, expansion talks have been relatively quiet lately, but he anticipates that to change soon. Pagnotta suggests that Atlanta and Salt Lake City will be the next two cities to gain NHL expansion teams.
Pagnotta explains that progress towards Atlanta's third NHL team has been ongoing, with plans for a new arena district potentially coming to fruition by September or October. However, the delay is due to ongoing construction of the arena in Atlanta, pushing back the official announcement.
If these plans proceed as expected, the new teams likely won't start competing until at least the 2025-26 season, possibly even the 2026-27 season.
Stay tuned for further expansion news as more information becomes available.
