With the NHL season about to start, teams need to finalize their rosters for opening night, and some players must clear waivers before being assigned to the minors.
Yesterday, 27 players were waived, and the Boston Bruins made their first claim by picking up goaltender Jiri Patera from the Vancouver Canucks to address their goaltending needs.
According to PuckPedia, 12 players are now on the waiver wire, with the aim of being sent to the American Hockey League as training camps start this week. Here's the list of players on waivers:
Spencer Martin (Carolina Hurricanes)
Calle Rosen (Colorado Avalanche)
Jack Ahcan (Colorado Avalanche)
Matthew Philips (Colorado Avalanche)
Trey Fix-Wolansky (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Cal Petersen (Philadelphia Flyers)
Scott Sabourin (San Jose Sharks)
Andrew Poturalski (San Jose Sharks)
Jimmy Huntington (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Marc Johnstone (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Mac Hollowell (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Benoit-Olivier Groulx (New York Rangers)
The waiver wire is expected to be active as the week progresses. We will find out on Thursday at 2 PM ET whether anyone from Wednesday's list is claimed or if they will be sent to the AHL. The San Jose Sharks will have the first opportunity to make a claim since they finished last in the NHL during the 2023-24 season, allowing them to have priority on waivers until November 1st.
