There is multiple reports flying around that a major trade is likely to go down involving goaltender Elvis Mezlikins of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Here is what Elvis had to say in front of the media today.
Despite expressing his love for Columbus and the team, Merzlikins has declared that he sees himself as a starting goaltender and is not content being a backup.
While he hasn't formally requested a trade, both sides are reportedly open to exploring potential options.
Merzlikins, drafted 76th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Blue Jackets, has a 7-8-6 record this season, with a 3.25 goals against average and a .907 save percentage for the struggling team.
Another surprising name that is gaining traction is Jacob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames. Insider Kevin Weekes teased us with a very similar tweet to the one previously mentioned.
David Pagnotta reported yesterday that Markstrom could be available for the right price.
The goaltending market seems to be picking up quite drastically and for teams looking to improve in nets like the Oilers, Leafs, Hurricanes, Devils among many, it might be the right time to strike.
It will be interesting to see what happens going forward.
Stay tuned...
