The San Jose Sharks are without a doubt looking to make multiple moves this season. Playoff contenders will seek to bolster their rosters before the March 8 trade deadline and the Sharks will be listening to offers on their players. Various players, including those with expiring contracts like Anthony Duclair, Mike Hoffman, Kevin Labanc, and Alexander Barabanov are available and will be attracting attention from other teams.
Recent reports on Hockey Night in Canada suggested that the Sharks are open to trade defenseman Mario Ferraro. The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta had previously mentioned Ferraro as a trade target on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio. At 25 years old, Ferraro is in the second year of a four year $13 million contract, making him an attractive option with a reasonable $3.25 million salary cap hit.
Several teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and Dallas Stars, are reportedly interested in Ferraro, with other clubs also expressing interest. Despite this, Sharks GM Mike Grier seems reluctant to part ways with Ferraro solely for future assets and draft picks. Any potential deal involving Ferraro is likely to be structured as a talent-for-talent swap or as part of a larger package bringing back young, NHL-ready talent to San Jose.
