The Los Angeles Kings are rumored to be targeting star goaltender Igor Shesterkin as they look to solve their consistent goaltending issues. Recently it was revealed that the New York Rangers offered Shesterkin a record breaking contract in the history of the game but he turned it down.
With negotiations at a standstill there's uncertainty about whether Shesterkin will sign an extension with the Rangers. While no trade seems imminent other teams including the Kings rumored to be preparing a major offer to acquire the former Vezina Trophy winner. According to a report from Hockey Buzz's Eklund the Kings are working on a mega trade offer and are eager to offer Shesterkin an 8 year deal.
Shesterkin's contract situation has sparked interest from multiple teams, but the Kings are particularly motivated due to their goaltending struggles. Shesterkin has has an impressive career being one of the league's best goalies with a 136-59-17 record, a 2.42 goals against average & a .921 save percentage. He has also won the Vezina Trophy.
While no moves have been made yet the Kings pool of talented prospects could entice the Rangers to consider a trade if they can't reach a deal with Shesterkin soon. For now both sides continue to weigh their options but trade talks will likely heat up if the Rangers & Shesterkin remain far apart from reaching an agreement.
