According to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, discussions have been held about bundling the pick with a roster player to acquire a defenseman and bolster their blue line.
Earlier, insider Pierre LeBrun disclosed that the Oilers were still in the running for defenseman Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames, having previously offered their first round pick along with defenseman Cody Ceci in an attempt to secure Tanev, who has since been traded to the Dallas Stars.
In addition to targeting defensemen, the Oilers are also eyeing players such as Sean Walker and Nick Seeler from the Philadelphia Flyers. It's been suggested that Walker could command a first-round pick in the market.
General Manager Ken Holland is also exploring options to strengthen the team's forward lines. While top forward Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins appears out of reach, the Oilers are looking at Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues, Adam Henrique from the Anaheim Ducks, Frank Vatrano, Jordan Eberle from the Seattle Kraken, and Anthony Duclair from the San Jose Sharks.
If the Oilers proceed with including their first round pick in a trade, they will likely need to offload a roster player to manage the salary cap. Players like Brett Kulak and Ceci on defense, along with forward Warren Foegele, have been mentioned as potential trade candidates.
With just one week remaining until the deadline, the pressure is on for Ken Holland and the Oilers to finalize their deals.
