Darren Dreger had previously mentioned Dallas' interest in Tanev, and during a recent Insider Trading segment on TSN, he elaborated on the Stars pursuit.
Dallas has intensified its efforts to secure Tanev, as they are eager to add a right-shot defenseman to their roster. However, their current offer to Calgary falls short of including a first-round draft pick, which has been a sticking point in negotiations.
Calgary's general manager, Craig Conroy, has made it clear to interested teams that a first-round pick is the asking price for Tanev. Despite this, no team has been willing to meet that demand yet. The Toronto Maple Leafs, in particular, have been linked to Tanev in the past but face challenges in meeting Calgary's terms due to their limited draft pick assets.
Reports indicate that Toronto's GM, Brad Treliving, attempted to negotiate a deal for Tanev but was unable to sway Conroy into accepting a lower offer. Treliving proposed multiple lower-round draft picks, but Calgary remains firm in their stance.
As the deadline approaches, Conroy seems unwilling to budge on his demands. This could prompt one of the contending teams vying for Tanev to reconsider and sweeten their offer by including the coveted first-round pick.
