This retired enforcer just took a shot at a journalist on X.com during a debate on fighting in the NHL.

Mark Methot Takes Shot at Journalist in X.com Debate

During a debate on X.com (Twitter), former NHL enforcer Mark Methot took a shot at Scott Wheeler of the Athletic, after Wheeler disagreed with his take on what Ryan Reaves brings to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Don't get defensive, Scott. I played in the NHL. Just listen to me.

Methot was a 13-year NHL veteran who retired after the 2018-19 season. He racked up a total of 380 penalty minutes in 624 career games. He is a vocal supporter of physical play in hockey, including fighting.

Fighting Debate Rages on Online

The quote itself comes from Methot describing how much he thinks Ryan Reaves brings to the Leafs. Reaves has clearly made a physical impact on the team, with Auston Matthews noting the energy that he brings to the ice every night.

I'm tired of debating this topic with people who have never stepped foot in a locker room. The players get it.

To be clear, I wasn't even close to being a tough guy and I've always appreciated analytics. However, I understood the value it brought to a team. You can't quantify it with numbers and charts.

Sure, his CF% or whatever isn't good. But how do Matthews and Marner feel about it? To me, that's all that matters.

Auston Matthews on Ryan Reaves:

"He's been an unreal addition ... big hits, just kind of getting the momentum back on our side, & obviously he's not afraid to chuck them. It's awesome to see & I imagine there's going to be a lot more of that throughout the rest of the season"

The debate over fighting will continue to rage on for fans, however, players seem to be pretty unified on what it brings to the game.
