Jim Montgomery & Brad Marchand are not two names you'd usually associate with conflict especially within the Boston Bruins. Team captain Brad Marchand is known more for controversies with opponents & not his own coach.
However things took a surprising turn during a recent game against Utah. After a poor performance head coach Jim Montgomery got in Marchand's face on the bench visibly upset with his captain. Video footage captured the moment showing Montgomery chewing Marchand out a rare sight for the coach now in his third year with the team.
What made the situation even more concerning was Montgomery making physical contact with Marchand which is a move that raised eyebrows. While the contact was minor it crossed a line in the modern NHL where physical interactions between coaches & players are heavily scrutinized.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman commented on the incident.
Now questions are swirling. Could this incident lead to serious consequences for Montgomery?
With the Bruins off to a shaky 3-2-1 start it's possible that GM Don Sweeney & owner Jeremy Jacobs are already reconsidering Montgomery's future. Has he lost the room? Only time will tell.
Is the honeymoon period between Montgomery & the Bruins over?
