Darren Dreger reported today on Sabres Live that the team is 'tremendously interested' in signing free agent forward Patrick Kane.

Can Kane Still Play At A High Level?

Kane put up 21 goals and 57 points in 73 games last year split between the Blackhawks and Rangers. It was a relatively disappointing season for a player that has scored over 100 points multiple times in his career. That being said, he is 34 years old now and he played through a hip injury last year that significantly limited his mobility.

Kane is still recovering from offseason hip surgery but he has stated that he can still comfortably contribute to an NHL team as a creative creator of offense. Kane has been linked to other teams in rumors this offseason but it is worth noting that the superstar is a native of Buffalo, New York.

Whether or not this gives the Sabres an advantage in signing him has yet to be seen but it would not be the first time, nor the last, that a Star NHL player chose to finish out an illustrious career with their hometown team. Buffalo is set to be a team built around high-octane offense, so perhaps the fit just makes enough sense for both sides to agree to a contract.
