Connor Brown has missed the last few weeks due to a lower-body injury. The forward was previously playing in the Oilers' top-6 and despite having a slow start production-wise, has played meaningful minutes for the Club. With their slow start, the Oilers will look to Brown to give them the spark they need to turn things around.
All signs are pointing to Brown returning to the top line with McDavid.
While the Oilers definitely need a spark to keep turning things around this season, the move will cost them. Brown is signed to a $775,000 contract this year, however, it is laden with signing bonuses. The deal gives Brown a $3.225MM bonus that kicks in when he reaches his tenth game of the season, which is today.
While this move will help the Oilers in the short term, it definitely proves to be a longer-term risk if it doesn't actually help the team turn things around. The signing bonus could have implications regarding how much room the Oilers have to sign players this offseason.
