A Florida-based communist is back at it as he has taken another jab at Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid and the country of Canada.
Before the start of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers, Florida columnist Greg Cote stirred controversy by calling superstar Connor McDavid "overrated."
Miami Herald columnist Greg Cote wrote:
«Connor McDavid is overrated. Boom. He puts up big, impressive stats, yes. Fine. But should he really be called ‘generational,' called the best player in the sport, when in nine seasons he has yet to lead his team to a Stanley Cup?»
Now, with the Panthers leading the series 3-0 and on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup, Cote is doubling down on his criticism of McDavid. He's even taking shots at fellow star Leon Draisaitl:
"Connor McDavid has proved McOverrated (like a wise man once said) and Leon Draisaitl has been Dry-saital, neither scoring a goal in this Final,» he wrote. "Also, Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner has been pretty bad, and defenseman Darnell Nurse has been worse."
Cote also referenced the ongoing Stanley Cup drought for Canadian teams, which will likely extend to 31 seasons.
"The country that invented hockey last won a Stanley Cup in 1993, and that country must be weeping in June yet again.
On the bright side, Canada, there's still curling, eh?"
Despite the controversy, it looks like Cote might have the last laugh. The Panthers have a chance to win their first Stanley Cup tomorrow night on Edmonton's home ice.
