The Canadiens announced that they have placed former 1st round pick defenseman Nicolas Beaudin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract per a mutual agreement, the team announced Sunday.
At 24 years old, defenseman Nicolas Beaudin hasn't played a game for the Montreal Canadiens since they acquired him from the Blackhawks in an October 2022 trade. In the 16 games he played for AHL Laval this season, Beaudin recorded six assists and a +2 rating, but he hasn't found the back of the net.
According to a report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Beaudin expressed dissatisfaction with his limited role in the minor leagues this season. Since returning from his Spengler Cup appearance with Team Canada in December, he was a healthy scratch in seven out of 10 games, contributing to his discontent with the situation.
