Carey Price has stated that he won't play another game in the NHL, despite not formally announcing a retirement. His knee injury keeping him from suiting up will also keep him on LTIR with the Canadiens since he has 2 years left on his contract.
Price recently opened up about whether or not he would be willing to waive his NTC in order to help the Canadiens and their cap space.
This may not seem like a huge deal, since Price isn't likely to play for any team he would be traded to. However, it would have a huge sentimental impact, since Price has never played for another team other than the Canadiens, and would likely end his career, at least on paper, with another team.
The Canadiens are on the precipice of being a true Stanley Cup-contending team, and moving Price's contract could be the final piece that gives them the room to make something happen. Kent Hughes will now be tasked with moving the contract, which could prove to be difficult.
