Is Controversial Habs Prospect Logan Mailloux Ready For NHL?
Since he was drafted Logan Mailloux has been one of the most controversial prospects in all of hockey. The Habs selected the controversial defenseman 31st overall in 2021, shocking the hockey world. Mailloux had been involved in a scandal during his first draft eligible season.
Mailloux attempted to renounce himself from the draft but that was not an option so in an odd twist of fate all he could hope for was to go undrafted. The Canadiens, of course, were willing to take the gamble with him.
Mailloux Impresses At Training Camp
TVA Sports journalist Jean-Charles Lajoie spoke highly of the prospect as training camps turn into preseason action.
"Logan Mailloux is just as impressive in this camp as Kaiden Guhle was a year ago. No more, no less. Same physical maturity to boot. Why do we want to see him two years in Laval, when last year, we all wanted to see Guhle here with the CH? Mailloux well before Barron!"
Mailloux is coming off a strong over-age season in the OHL in which he scored 53 points in 59 games for the London Knights. He has now aged out of that league so he will be with either the Canadiens or their AHL team in Laval this season.
It is quite rare for a player to make the jump from the CHL to the NHL with no AHL time in-between. This is especially the case for defensemen, who often take longer to develop.
