The New York Rangers have quickly found a replacement for enforcer Matt Rempe bringing in forward Jake Leschyshyn from the AHL.

With Rempe reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack Leschyshyn has been called up to fill his physical high energy role in the lineup ahead of the Rangers game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Leschyshyn, 25, isn't typically known as an enforcer but his recent performance with the Wolf Pack shows his versatility. In a 4-3 overtime win against Lehigh Valley he earned the second star of the game with a goal & an assist bringing his season total to three points in five games. Last season he recorded 19 points over 47 games & brings NHL experience from both the Vegas Golden Knights & the Rangers.

Although he may start as an extra forward, Leschyshyn could see more ice time if injuries or other lineup changes occur. With veteran Jimmy Vesey still sidelined & no clear return date Leschyshyn's call up brings needed depth & grit. Head coach Peter Laviolette may expect him to take on a more aggressive style stepping up as both a physical presence & a contributor on the penalty kill.

This promotion gives Leschyshyn an opportunity to step into the enforcer role once held by Rempe potentially adding some offensive impact along with his physicality. The Rangers need a combination of toughness & scoring depth, & Leschyshyn's skills & experience make him a promising fit for this role.
