The Islanders have made several roster adjustments ahead of tonight's game against Florida. They announced that winger Anthony Duclair has been placed on long term injured reserve (LTIR) while Liam Foudy has been sent down to the AHL's Bridgeport team. These moves freed up cap space allowing the team to sign veteran winger Matt Martin to a one year contract & recall wingers Pierre Engvall & Hudson Fasching from the minors.
Martin, who has spent all but two of his 15 NHL seasons with the Islanders, was initially not offered a contract over the summer. However, after remaining on a tryout basis with New York into the season, he now has a new deal. Though the contract's financial terms were not disclosed, Martin is eligible to play tonight if head coach Patrick Roy decides to include him.
Duclair's LTIR placement was expected, as he recently sustained a leg injury that will sideline him for 4-6 weeks. By moving him to LTIR, the Islanders gain some flexibility with their tight salary cap. Duclair's LTIR placement is retroactive to October 19, and he will miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days.
Meanwhile, Foudy, who joined the Islanders on Tuesday and played in two games, returns to Bridgeport. The 24-year-old forward now has 104 career NHL games to his name and has contributed four assists in five AHL games with Bridgeport this season.
Engvall, who is in the second year of a seven-year, $21 million contract, and Fasching, who played 45 games with the Islanders last season, also return to the main roster. These roster changes bring the Islanders up to the 23-player roster limit, just in time for tonight's matchup.
