Bob Jones was a major figure in the hockey world, taking on the task of coaching in the OHL and AHL over several years. He eventually became a major part of the Ottawa Senators after being hired as their assistant coach.
Unfortunately, only a few years after his start with the Senators, Jones was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). As a sign of support, Ottawa donned special decals on their helmets for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Jones continued working with the team while also becoming a prominent spokesperson for those suffering the same disease.
Unfortunately, Bob Jones has lost the battle against ALS, and has tragically passed away at the age of 54. He is survived by his wife and family, and remembered by many for his long coaching career.
Bob Jones is nothing short of a hero for many, providing those with ALS the inspiration and motivation to do all they can with their life amidst their battles. Hopefully, his predicted cure will come sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we hope you can join us in sending all proper condolences to his family and friends.
