The Flyers have long been trying to bring Alexei Kolosov over to North America to join the organization. However due to a standing KHL contract, it proved to be much more challenging than initially expected. Now things have changed in a big way.
According to Elliotte Friedman's report, Kolosov and the Flyers have worked out an agreement to bring him to North America, get him into some pre-season games, and possibly even with the Flyers' top team. If things don't work out this year, he'll return to the KHL.
The Flyers currently have solid goaltenders in Ivan Fedotov, Samuel Ersson, and Cal Peterson, but Kolosov's clear talent means the team has significant plans for him moving forward. Drafted in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Kolosov played two AHL games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last year but hasn't had the chance to break into the NHL yet.
In those games, Kolosov was strong, stopping 46 of the 52 shots faced. With a 2.39 GAA and a .907 save % in 47 KHL games for Dynamo Minsk, it's clear that he has the potential to be a game changer in the NHL. Now with several pre-season games remaining, he has the opportunity to prove himself against NHL competition. Although it's unclear where he fits within the current goaltender depth chart, the Flyers have a clear plan for him & they'll act in his best interests in the coming weeks and months.
