Sidney Crosby hit his all time low with the Pittsburgh Penguins after an embarassing performance against the Carolina Hurricanes yesterday.

This season the Penguins have been inconsistent. They currently hold a 3-3 record which started with a 6-0 loss to the New York Rangers. Since then, they've won 6-3 against both the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens but stumbled again with a 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes last night. It was one of Crosby's worst games ever.

Not only did Crosby fail to get on the scoresheet, but his Corsi For percentage (CF%) hit a career-low. CF% measures a player's effectiveness by calculating the ratio of missed, blocked & successful shots to the shots blocked & missed by the opposing team in 5-on-5 play. The average CF% for NHL players is between 45-55%. Last night Crosby's was under 20% sitting at 19.35% which is the worst of his career.

According to The Athletic's Cory Lavalette Crosby's two worst CF% performances over the past three seasons have come against the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are one of the toughest teams in the NHL, and this could be concerning for Crosby and the Penguins, especially since they share the same division and are likely to face each other several more times this season, possibly even in the playoffs.

At 39 Crosby's struggles might raise some concerns but with six points in his last six games it's too soon to worry. He remains one of the top players in the league.

The Pens will look to bounce back next game tomorrow versus the Winnipeg Jets in what is likely to be an exciting match.
