Before Saturday night's game against the Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe wasn't shy to voice out on his leading scorer William Nylander. His words certainly rubbed a few people the wrong way and I'm sure Nylander won't be happy to hear about it.
Nylander has scored 16 goals and 45 points through 31 games so far this season. Behind him is Auston Matthews who has 28 goals and 41 points on the season with an impressing goal scoring rate giving him the lead for the Rocket Richard Trophy.
Keefe clearly thought that Matthews was carrying the load on his line and decided to shuffle things up a bit by putting Nylander back with John Tavares.
Despite Keefe's comments, Nylander ended up scoring 3 points against the Blue Jackets with a goal and two assists. Matthews also finished with 2 goals and 1 assist. The shake up proved to be successful for Sheldon Keefe which backs up his comments for the time being.
It's likely that both players will end up back with each other as Keefe likes to shuffle his lines quite a bit based on his coaching history with the Leafs. This has raised eyebrows especially last year in the playoffs when the Leafs couldn't get the chemistry right against the Florida Panthers.
We hope to see Sheldon find the right groove this year with his team so they can go on a deep playoff run and break the curse.
