Analysts calling for Nick Robertson to be placed on waivers following bush league play

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered another injury scare with William Nylander, and now there's calls to waive Nick Robertson after his role in the play that caused it.

While Nick Robertson has already been on the trade block in Toronto, there are now more calls to move on from the young forward after his bush league play on Thursday night. During a pre-season game with the Canadiens, Robertson attempted to help William Nylander gain speed by pushing him in the back with his stick, but ultimately, it was a disaster for the Leafs, with many now calling him out on it.

Sure, there's no doubt that Robertson was trying to make a play with the move, but in the pre-season, it's just not necessary, especially given the risk of injury that ultimately occurred with the play.

While many called Robertson out on social media, Nick Kypreos did it on the air, lambasting Robertson for an incredibly unnecessary play that just has no place in the pre-season, labelling it as dumb, bush league and ultimately called the young forward lazy.

Given how brutal a long-term injury to Nylander would be for the hopes of Toronto in 2024/25, it makes it even more confusing as to why Robertson chose to make this play, so hopefully with all of the backlash he can learn when to make plays like this and when to simply make the smart play. Robertson was already on the trade block with the team struggling to find a spot for him in their forward group, but now things have gotten worse, so don't be shocked if the team follow Kypreos' advice and look to aggressively move him in the coming days.
