The NHL 2024-25 preseason is well underway, and the stakes on the ice are already getting high. The Toronto Maple Leafs were set to face off against the Montreal Canadiens from their home stadium the Scotiabank Arena. Afterlosing back-to-back games against the Ottawa Senators, Nick Robertson tried to take matters into his own hands to push against the Habs and earn their first win. Unfortunately, his move was a sloppy stick boost to William Nylander that forced him down on the ice, hitting his head on the leg of Christian Dvorak. He then spent a few moments managing the pain before heading down the tunnel. Nick Robertson has, understandably, become the subject of ridicule for this failed move, including former NHLer Nick Kypreos.
However, matters were made worse for Nick Robertson after the team announced that William Nylander would not be able to return to the ice for the remainder of the game. Luckily for both, the Toronto Maple Leafs' choice to keep him off the ice was largely precautionary, implying there is no long-term issue keeping the Core 4 forward off the lineup.
Despite the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs were down one of their most important players, the team was finally able to secure their first preseason victory, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 2-1. They will have a chance to take down the team again at Bell Centre on Saturday, September 28th. Provided the Leafs' update, we can likely expect William Nylander back on the ice for the team's fourth preseason game. Hopefully, though, Nick Robertson will think twice about how he should really help his teammates before causing another, more severe injury.
