The Toronto Maple Leafs former enforcer Jay Rosehill called out Ryan Reaves for not dropping the gloves this season.

Ryan Reaves, 37, joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2023, and fans never got to see the player they were hoping for. In past seasons, Reaves made his opponents flinch on the ice, but now, he's struggling to bring the same style. He hasn't dropped the gloves in four games this season, including against Xhekaj of the Montreal Canadiens and Matt Rempe with the New York Rangers. Reaves was even scratched a few times by the Maple Leafs' new head coach Craig Berube.

In a recent podcast, the former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill talked about Reaves and revealed that he's curious as to why he didn't drop the gloves when his team needed it.

Here's what he said:

"The Reavo, Rempe man, I've had some info that Rempe was absolutely coming after Reavo and coming to get that thing underway. I thought it was going to happen for sure and I found out afterward that Rempe said 'I've asked him several times and he acted like I didn't exist and wouldn't even make eye contact', and you saw that with Wi-Fi as well, game one.

I know it was at the end of his shift but when that happened to me and someone challenged me and like back up and shake your gloves almost, I'm fine if you're at the end of your shift, like nice try, and then make sure next shift you find that guy.

Just doesn't seem to be happening and in both games where you could've used one, right? You know when you're down and looking for some life, that's a good way to do it and he doesn't seem to be too interested so far this year, which makes me kinda scratch my head but not coming down on Reavo or anything yet, just curious as to why not in those games where it could've benefited your team."

Enforcers don't have to drop the gloves every game, but when their team needs it, they must do it. When they're challenged, they must answer. Can we really call Reaves an enforcer if he doesn't fight?

He did drop the gloves in a preseason game against the Ottawa Senators, with the AHLer Donovan Sebrango. But it's the regular season that matters, not the preseason.
