Kadri has come a long way since his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs becoming a Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche & signing a big contract with the Calgary Flames.
However his journey hasn't been easy. In his new book Kadri shares how after the 2019 playoffs where the Leafs lost to the Bruins & he was suspended he was nearly traded. Initially the Leafs tried to trade him to the Calgary Flames but Calgary was on his no trade list.
Despite this Kyle Dubas attempted to pressure Kadri who had a newborn on the way into accepting the trade. Kadri was led to believe he was part of the Leafs future but suddenly started receiving calls from Flames players & executives asking him to waive his no trade clause.
Feeling blindsided Kadri chose to exercise his veto & stay in Toronto. This led to tension with the Leafs management & ultimately Kadri was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. He went on to win the Stanley Cup with them securing his place in NHL history.
After his time in Colorado, Kadri signed a seven-year, $49-million deal with the very team he had initially refused to join, the Calgary Flames. Ironically, as the Flames enter a rebuilding phase, Kadri once again finds himself in trade rumors. Hopefully, this time, the process will be smoother than what he experienced in Toronto under Dubas.
