While Don Cherry may not be as involved in the hockey world as he used to be, he still likes to share his opinions on hot topics across the NHL. It's great to see Cherry still active at 90 years old, through his podcast: Don Cherry's Grapevine.
In the latest episode, Cherry talked about the current season and stated his predictions for which team is most likely to cause a surprise.
According to him, the Utah Hockey Club must be taken seriously, as they will probably be in the playoff landscape at the end of the season. However, he doesn't think they will be the team to win the Stanley Cup this year.
In Cherry's words:
Nobody could've predicted how things are unfolding in the Central Division right now. Utah is currently third, with a 4-1-1 record, one point behind the Dallas Stars and the Winnipeg Jets, tied at the first position. With the Colorado Avalanche starting their season on the wrong foot, this leaves other teams the opportunity to get a head start on the Avs, who are expected to bounce back imminently.
In Utah, things have been going a lot better than expected. They made significant acquisitions this summer like Mikhail Sergachev, and their young players have reached the next level of their development. In six games, Dylan Guenther and Logan Cooley produced at a point-per-game rate, exceeding the expectations of fans and management alike.
The Utah Hockey Club is set to jump on the ice tomorrow against the Ottawa Senators, the first game against a Canadian team in franchise history.
