Winnipeg Jets star officially hits the trade block
The Winnipeg Jets have placed star forward Nikolaj Ehlers on the trade block as they look to retool their roster for next season.
After a strong start with the Jets, Nik Ehlers is reportedly on the trade block following Winnipeg's disappointing playoff exit. The Jets were confident heading into the playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche, but despite having elite goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, they were eliminated in five games. Now, the Jets are looking to make significant changes this summer to extend their playoff window and improve their chances of a future Stanley Cup run.
According to Murat Ates of The Athletic, the Jets are planning to trade Nikolaj Ehlers to get younger and more talented players:
He added, "Ehlers has been shopped before, but never so seriously that talks reached the boiling point. Things could be different this summer."
Despite his contributions to the franchise, Ehlers has been considered for trades before. For teams looking to compete, Ehlers could be an excellent addition.
As the market develops, it appears the Jets will be active this summer, with trading a veteran star like Ehlers being a top priority.
