Earlier this week it was reported that five teams currently playing in the AJHL plan to and have been accepted to join the BCHL next season. This is significant as the BCHL will be splitting away from Hockey Canada, effectively becoming a new independent junior hockey league to rival the WHL in western Canada.
In response to this move, the AJHL announced today that the five teams involved have had their games cancelled and their status with the league has been permanently suspended.
The players on these teams had nothing to do with any of this but now they are the unfortunate victims in the league's retaliation. This now means that over 100 players in the league could potentially miss the entire rest of the season. It may not seem fair, but these are the consequences the teams have brought upon themselves by abandoning ship with the AJHL.
