The Detroit Tigers unexpected MLB playoff run has led to a time change for the Detroit Red Wings home opener. Just last week, a pre-season game between the Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins was postponed due to travel issues with Pittsburgh's team. Because of that, the National Hockey League had to change the start time of the Red Wings 1st game of the season.
The Red Wings home opener has been changed from 7pm to 8pm in order to accommodate for the Tigers playoffs game vs the Cleveland Guardians. This will create an exciting day for Detroit fans as the city has not seen much success from their teams aside from the Lions. Fans will have to choose between watching Tigers in a surprise post season run or the Red Wings as they kick off their highly anticipated season.
This offseason the Red Wings locked in two of their rising stars Moritz Seider & Lucas Raymond with big contract extensions. They also added experienced veterans, aiming to end their long Stanley Cup Playoffs drought. Despite the minor time shift, the Red Wings are eager to start the season strong.
If the Red Wings can find their groove early they'll be one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NHL this season. With both the Tigers & Red Wings in action, it's sure to be an unforgettable day in Detroit sports.
