Leavins reports that Gagner, who signed with the Edmonton Oilers last October after attending training camp on a professional tryout, has been staying in shape by skating at his annual Muskoka Hockey camp.
Gagner, who just turned 35, scored five goals and recorded 10 points in 28 games with the Oilers last season. He also added three goals and nine points in 15 AHL games with the Bakersfield Condors. However, he did not play in any games during the Oilers' run to the Stanley Cup Final this past spring.
Last season marked Gagner's third stint with the Oilers, who originally selected him sixth overall in the 2007 draft. Over his NHL career, spanning 1,043 games, Gagner has tallied 197 goals and 529 points. He has played for several teams, including the Oilers, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and Winnipeg Jets.
Last season, Gagner had a cap hit of $775,000 on a two-way contract.
