Henderson played for the Bruins from 1954 to 1956 & while he appeared in only 46 NHL games he left a mark on the sport. Standing at 6foot5 he earned the nickname "Long" & was one of the tallest players of his era. In his NHL career Henderson posted a 15-14-16 record back when ties were counted, with a 2.58 goal against average (GAA), an.857 save percentage (SV%) & five shutouts.
Though his NHL time was short Henderson had a memorable career including helping Canada win gold at the 1958 World Championship in Norway. He was known for his ability to adapt his style to suit his size.
During training camp with the Maple Leafs Henderson initially struggled to play stand up goalie which was required at the time. After deciding to go back to his crouching style he made a strong case to General Manager Hap Day.
Henderson eventually moved on to the Bruins where he played his NHL games. One of his career highlights was holding legendary scorer Maurice "Rocket" Richard to just two goals in seven games which is a feat many goaltenders couldn't achieve.
Though his NHL career was brief Henderson is remembered by friends, family &teammates as a humble & gracious player grateful for the opportunities he had.
