The Pittsburgh Penguins have completed a trade with the Minnesota Wild, acquiring forward Maxim Cajkovic in exchange for defenseman Will Butcher, as announced by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.
Cajkovic, 23, is under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season with an average annual value of $925,000. In the current season, he played five games with the Iowa Wild in the AHL, scoring one goal and two assists, and 20 games with the Iowa Heartlanders in the ECHL, registering 12 goals, six assists, and 18 points.
On the other hand, defenseman Will Butcher, 29, recorded seven points in 14 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL this season. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh on July 3, 2023. In his NHL career, Butcher has collected 114 points in 275 games with New Jersey (2017-21) and Buffalo (2021-22).
Of course this is not the big blockbuster everyone is waiting for but this could be the domino that starts it all.
Stay tuned.
