The Oilers are defying all projections, as many thought they would dominate the league and be strong contenders to win the Stanley Cup.
Even if there's still time to readjust, things will need to change soon before it's too late.
Ken Holland, the team's GM and president, decided to place Jack Campbell on the waivers. Campbell is one of the biggest disappointment in Edmonton. He hasn't lived up to his $5M AAV contract at all.
That move won't make much money available for the Oilers. They can only bury $1.15M out of his $5M AAV.
It's been reported that the Oilers are interested in Stanley Cup champion Jordan Binnington.
Campbell and Binnington are in a similar contractual situation. They both have three years left, with $5M AAV for Campbell and $6M AAV for Binnington.
For a deal to happen, the Blues will either need to retain money or the Oilers will need to move more assets.
Binnington has been considerably better than Campbell in recent years, but he still had his share of difficulties.
Do you think Binnington will be traded to Edmonton?
