Few Assets Off Limits In Oilers Trade Discussions
Today an NHL insider was able to provide major updates on the Edmonton Oilers' future.
Oilers/Holland thread: All eyes are on Ken Holland right now and rightfully so. My sense is, outside their first round pick, all assets and options (29,97 aside) are in play to try and find a fix. Prospects, 2nd rounders, roster players, all of it on the table...

The Oilers are willing to make major moves. Beyond trading McDavid, Draisaitl, or a first-round pick this season the Oilers are listening. Rishaug also indicated the Oilers could be buyers or sellers on the market.
He says that the team is looking for a specific type of player to help stabilize the team on and off the ice.
Insider Provides Potential Options For Oilers Trades
Rishaug also went on to talk about the type of player the Oilers would want to bring in if they were going to be buyers. For those who know the type of player Ken Holland generally enjoys it will not be a surprise.
but what Holland cannot do with his team in total free-fall - is nothing. Here are some things I believe they should be looking for outside G and D - any of these elements would be a positive add
-Cup experience
-Physicality/Toughness
-Positive locker room presence/energy..
Rishaug had a player in mind with a history in Edmonton that could check every box listed above.
A player like Pat Maroon would fit the bill on all three of these fronts - (Not sure his availability). There are others who check one or two of the boxes. Point is - Holland has to find a way to check a box, and it needs to happen now.
Rishaug ends his thoughts with a prediction on goalie Jack Campbell. He believes we have not seen the end of Campbell in an Oilers uniform.
Also, wouldn't be shocked to see Campbell get another look at some point. After a shaky start his game is turning a bit - we'll see, but solutions must also be found/generated internally.
Finally, if the core players don't find their collective game - and fast - none of this will matter much in the end (end)
With a lot of factors in play including the job security of Ken Holland, a move is not likely imminent. They will likely wait to see if they can bounce back or if they will sell off pieces.
As the weeks go by the heat will continue to be turned up on Holland to do something.
