The Edmonton Oilers are in need of a goaltender after sending Jack Campbell to the minors after a terrible start to the season. With just Stuart Skinner as their starter and Calvin Pickard to back him up, the Oilers will clearly need to add another formidable NHL-calibre goalie if they want to have any shot at turning their season around and making a run in the playoffs.
Now, according to Elliotte Friedman, they have taken their search to Montreal, and have an interest in all three of their goaltenders, Jake Allen, Sam Montembault, and Cayden Primeau.
The Oilers are in a tough spot right now regarding a potential trade in net. This is primarily because of Jack Campbell's insanely overpriced contract, sitting at $5 million AAV. To move this, and considering their desperation, they are likely going to have to add in some other sweeteners, additions that could cost them in the long run.
If they are going to take the risk and make a trade, they will need to do so fast, as the goaltender market continues to heat up.
