There's some buzz around the possible trade of Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson with the New Jersey Devils showing strong interest. It's no secret the Devils are desperately searching for a bonafide number 1 goaltender and star goaltender Gibson would be the perfect fit. Sources say talks have resumed as the Ducks head to the East Coast this week.
The Detroit Red Wings are also in the mix, seeking a top goaltender. Detroit may have an edge since Ducks GM Pat Verbeek has some ties to the Red Wings.
Gibson is in the fifth year of an eight-year $51.2 million deal that carries a ten team no-trade list which adds some complexity. The Devils despite contract concerns, are proactive in exploring a deal for Gibson.
It's no question he would be a game-changer and would put the Devils in serious contention to win the Stanley Cup.
