Montreal, one of several teams linked to Zegras, has been searching for offensive help. According to recent reports, the two teams nearly finalized a deal at the end of June. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Canadiens and Ducks had agreed on a trade that would have sent Zegras and a second-round pick to Montreal. In return, Anaheim would have received defenseman Logan Mailloux and a first-round pick.
However, the deal fell through when the Canadiens' target, Michael Hage, was still available at their second pick of the first round.
Zegras, 23, was limited to just 31 games during the 2023-24 season due to injuries, recording 15 points (six goals, nine assists), 30 penalty minutes, and a minus-one rating. The Bedford, New York native remains with the Anaheim Ducks, but it will be interesting to see if any teams around the NHL increase their trade offers before training camps open in mid-September.
