Rutger McGroarty has long been expected to have a solid career in the NHL as a potential top-six forward. Aware of the kid's talent and potential, the Winnipeg Jets picked the Michigan hockey player at 14th overall in the 2022 draft.
However, McGroarty, now 20, has yet to play in the NHL and has apparently only caused strife in Winnipeg. Understandably, the team was recently said to have attempted to trade him to the Montreal Canadiens for Filip Mesar, a defenseman, and a draft pick.
However, this plan fell through. Yet, the onus may be less on the Jets than previously believed. According to Mike MacIntrye of Winnipeg Sports Talk, many issues in securing a solid deal came from difficulties in and with McGroarty's camp.
With little wiggle room in working with a tough camp, the Winnipeg Jets could be in big trouble getting a good deal for Rutger McGroarty. Hopefully, their struggles will not prevent them from getting something, at the very least.
