Don Waddell reveals the true reason why Patrik Laine wants out of Columbus
Former Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell has revealed that Patrik Laine no longer wants to stay with the team, and they are actively exploring trade options.
In an interview on TSN 1050 in Toronto, Waddell discussed Laine's future and mentioned that in all his years working in the NHL, he has never encountered a situation quite like this. He described it as an intense scenario where Laine is eager to leave the team.
Waddell, along with new GM Eric Tulsky, is working hard to find a trade that suits both Laine and the Blue Jackets. However, Waddell made it clear that he won't rush into a deal that could harm the team. If no immediate trade can be arranged, Laine will be expected to report to training camp, though Waddell acknowledged that they can't physically force him to do so. He expressed hope that Laine would make the right decision while they continue working on a potential trade.
One of the more surprising aspects of Waddell's interview was his mention of possible issues within the Blue Jackets' locker room, which could be contributing to Laine's desire to leave. Considering the team's struggles last season, finishing at the bottom of the standings, it's understandable that frustration might build up. However, no one wants that frustration to turn into toxicity within the team.
