All NHL offseason long, rumors have been swirling that New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba might be on the move. The Rangers reportedly were prepared to send him to the Detroit Red Wings, but once that news leaked, Trouba changed his no-trade clause to include Detroit.

In a recent interview, Stanley Cup winning and former Rangers GM Neil Smith shared his thoughts on the situation and whether GM Chris Drury is to be blamed for the mess.

The thing that I'm surprised that in that situation is to allow this to happen, and to allow it to happen publicly

Smith confirmed that Trouba and his camp the team lined up a trade to Detroit but didn't communicate properly with the player. Trouba then included Detroit on the no-trade list on July 1st. Now it seems like the Buffalo Sabres are on there too.

#Sabres and #NYR have continued discussions about Jacob Trouba. Buffalo is currently on the No Trade List, but there is belief within the organization that Trouba may accept a trade to Buffalo. The alternative is he gets put on waivers/buyout. #NHL

The Blueshirts still seem to want to move on from Trouba, but with other teams knowing he's not eager to leave, interest might drop.
