Former Calgary Flames center Dillon Dubé will continue his hockey career overseas after signing a one-year contract with Dinamo Minsk, a Belarusian club in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Dubé, 26, last played in the NHL during the 2023-2024 season with the Flames. His move to the KHL comes amid ongoing controversy involving five players facing serious charges. While the scandal continues to unfold, it seems Dubé will be able to play this season, though outside of the NHL.
Over six seasons with the Flames, Dubé played 325 games, recording 57 goals and 70 assists for 127 points. He also spent time in the AHL with the Stockton Heat. In 22 playoff games, the 5'11", 185-pound left-shot center contributed 4 goals and 2 assists.
Dubé isn't the only player allegedly involved in the scandal who will be playing overseas. It appears that some KHL teams are offering players second, third, or even fourth chances to continue their careers. Whether they deserve these opportunities is a matter of debate, but many athletes before them have been given chances under similar or even more serious circumstances.
