The NHL has been forced to postpone Saturday night's highly anticipated game between the Tampa Bay Lightning & the Carolina Hurricanes at Amalie Arena due to ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Milton in the Tampa Bay area. A makeup date will be announced soon by Gary Bettman & the NHL.
The hurricane caused significant damage in the region with Tropicana Field home of the Tampa Bay Rays suffering major damage as much of its roof was blown off. Fortunately the damage to Amalie Arena appears to be much less severe.
TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston shared that while St. Petersburg, where Tropicana Field is located was hit harder, Amalie Arena in Tampa seems to have escaped the worst of the storm.
Despite the delay in Tampa, the Lightning and Hurricanes will open their season as scheduled on Friday in Raleigh. The Lightning are still expected to host the Vancouver Canucks at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.
As recovery efforts continue, the safety and condition of the arena and the surrounding area will remain priorities. More updates will follow as the situation evolves and the makeup date for the postponed game is confirmed.
