Earlier, the Oilers put the young forward on waivers, aiming to send him to the AHL, but he was quickly claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights. This move surprised many especially since Vegas had also claimed another player from the Calgary Flames. However just 24 hours later Lavoie was back on waivers with Edmonton hoping to reclaim him.
Fortunately for the Oilers, they successfully got him back, but there was a catch. Since another team had also placed a claim on Lavoie, he couldn't automatically be sent to the AHL. Instead, Edmonton now needs him to clear waivers again, which they're hoping will happen as they placed him on waivers once more, aiming to send him to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
It's unclear whether the initial claim was a strategic move by Vegas to frustrate Edmonton or if they were genuinely interested in Lavoie. For now, the Oilers have no choice but to wait and see if he clears waivers this time. If they lose him again, it could be seen as poor handling of a young player who might have contributed to their bottom-six lineup.
In other news, two other players have also been placed on waivers.
Stay tuned for more updates.
