A potential blockbuster trade between the Calgary Flames & the Dallas Stars is gaining traction as the new season begins.

Sportsnet's Ryan Dixon reported that Dallas might target Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson. In return the Stars could offer top forward prospect Mavrik Bourque & additional assets. Andersson who is on a team friendly contract with a $4.55 million cap hit through the 2025-26 season, could be the perfect fit for a team like Dallas, which might need solid defensive help to compete with teams like the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.

It remains to be seen if Bourque alone would be enough to entice Flames GM Craig Conroy. Bourque was a 2020 first round pick but he's only appeared in one NHL game so far. Despite this he's been a key piece for Dallas during training camp contributing on special teams. With Dallas depth at forward Bourque could become a valuable trade chip if the Stars decide to make a move before the deadline.

Andersson who has a six team no trade list holds some control over his destination but a chance to join the Stars for a Stanley Cup run could be appealing. If the Flames continue their rebuild acquiring Bourque could be a smart move for their younger core. Keep an eye on this possible trade as the season unfolds.

We will keep an eye on this situation as the season progresses.
