Yesterday NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks between the Oilers and Canadiens have picked up as the orange and blue are in desperate need for an NHL caliber goaltender. The team is reportedly interested in both Kaden Primeau and Sam Montembeault
Friedman also reported that the team was really hoping Jack Campbell would somehow find his game again after being sent to the AHL. It sounds like a trade is their backup plan, which is interesting given how bad both Campbell and Skinner have been this year.
Almost everyone in the hockey world just assumed the Oilers were working on a trade that would bring a goalie to Edmonton. Apparently, Ken Holland was literally hoping the problem would just magically go away. Campbell has been terrible in the AHL since being sent down. In three games he has a 0-3 record and an .820 save percentage
The clock is ticking on the Oilers season so a trade will surely come soon.
Long time veteran Jaroslav Halak was recently released by the Carolina Hurricanes from his PTO offer. This could be an interesting option for the Oilers if no trade materializes.
