The Edmonton Oilers have been off to one of their worst starts in recent memory. Their 5-11-1 start puts them 30th in the NHL and 7th in the Pacific division. The number one cause of their problems has been goaltending but they may finally be getting a solution in net.

NHL Insider Links Edmonton Oilers To Two Canadiens Goalies

Yesterday NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks between the Oilers and Canadiens have picked up as the orange and blue are in desperate need for an NHL caliber goaltender. The team is reportedly interested in both Kaden Primeau and Sam Montembeault
Friedman talking Oilers interest in Habs goalies (32TP): "The Oilers were there to see all 3 Montreal goalies play. They saw them all.. I think Allen is the least likely of the 3...I do think those are two of the guys Edmonton is looking at (Montembeault & Primeau)"

Edmonton Oilers Backup Plan Is To Trade For Goalie

Friedman also reported that the team was really hoping Jack Campbell would somehow find his game again after being sent to the AHL. It sounds like a trade is their backup plan, which is interesting given how bad both Campbell and Skinner have been this year.
Friedman mentions that players have NTC these days, and Edmonton is not a desirable place for many players which makes it that much harder. Oilers were really hoping Campbell would go down to the AHL and rediscover his game, that's not happening right now.

Almost everyone in the hockey world just assumed the Oilers were working on a trade that would bring a goalie to Edmonton. Apparently, Ken Holland was literally hoping the problem would just magically go away. Campbell has been terrible in the AHL since being sent down. In three games he has a 0-3 record and an .820 save percentage
The clock is ticking on the Oilers season so a trade will surely come soon.

Edmonton Oilers Could Look At A Free Agent Option If They Can't Pull The Trigger On A Trade

Long time veteran Jaroslav Halak was recently released by the Carolina Hurricanes from his PTO offer. This could be an interesting option for the Oilers if no trade materializes.
